VISAS
General Information
Lebanese citizens can go to Lebanon without a visa, if they have a valid Canadian passport AND a Lebanese I.D. (or civil status act - Ikhraj Kayd).
Please note that NO visa to Lebanon will be issued on the passports showing an Israeli visa, or a stamp of an entrance to Israel; and
a Visa to Lebanon is automatically cancelled in case an Israeli visa is obtained later.
For minors, both parents must be present to apply for the visa, with one colored small picture of the child (white background) and his birth certificate.
In case one of the parents is abroad, an official and original power of attorney should be presented to the Consulate in order to allow the other parent to apply for a visa.
Canadian, American and European Union passport holders can obtain their entry visa directly upon arrival to Beirut’s airport. For those who wish to obtain their visa at the Consulate before traveling, they must fill up the application form and present along the following documents:
- One small colored picture with a white background
- Passport: valid for more than 6 months after the date of return, with no visa or entry to Israel
- Address and phone number in Lebanon
- Work or study proof (letter of the employer, or scholar certificate)

Validity :
Travelers have three months to enter Lebanon, after the visa’s issue date.
The « one » entry and « two » entries visa are valid for 3 months after the date of arrival to Lebanon
The « multiple entries » visa is valid for 6 months after the date of arrival to Lebanon

LEBANESE PASSPORTS
ISSUING / RENEWING OF A LEBANESE PASSPORT
Following the recent instructions of the Lebanese Authorities, it is possible to renew the blue Lebanese passport for one year or five years, and the red Lebanese passport for one year only. The Consulate General can only issue a new red passport valid for one year after obtaining the authorization of the Lebanese Authorities.
To renew a Lebanese passport, the applicants must come personally to the Consulate General with the following documents:
- Application Form
- Lebanese passport
- 2 recent colored pictures with a white background (or 3 pictures for a new passport)
- New Lebanese I.D. or civil status act (Ikhraj Kayd) issued after 1993
- Proof of residence in Canada: Citizenship card, Immigration visa / permanent resident card, work or study permit.

- 40 $ : renewal for one year
- 200 $ : renewal for five years
P.S.:
- The Lebanese Authorities encourage all Lebanese Citizens to apply for and get the new machine readable blue Lebanese passport, as it would be much easier for the holders of such passports to obtain visas.
- Following the recommendations of the ICAO, and starting the 31st of October 2006, 36 countries refuse to accord entry visas to the applicants who don’t hold machine readable passports.
- Although it’s not yet possible to apply for the new passports outside Lebanon, the Lebanese citizens are kindly asked to check the web site of the Consulate regularly, to be informed as soon as the application for those passports would be accepted at the Consulate General.
XX LEBANESE PASSPORT (Adult with children)
Following the recent instructions of the Lebanese Authorities, it’s no longer possible to issue a Lebanese passport where the name of a child is added. New red Lebanese passports will be issued for one year only, for each person individually. For children, please refer to the section: issuing a child’s Lebanese passport.
ISSUING / RENEWAL OF A CHILD’S PASSPORT
BOTH parents must be present to renew their child’s passport if the child is less than 18 years old. The following documents are needed:
- Child’s passport
- Two recent colored pictures of the child with white background (or three pictures if
it’s a new passport)
- Lebanese ID of the child or his civil status act (Ikhraj Kayd) issued after 1993
- Familial civil status act (Ikhraj Kayd aakili) if available
- Proof of residence in Canada: Citizenship card, Immigration visa / permanent resident card, birth certificate for the children born in Canada

ADDING A CHILD’S NAME ON ONE OF HIS PARENT’S PASSPORT
Following the recent instructions of the Lebanese Authorities, it’s no longer possible to add a child’s name on one of his parents’ passports. New red Lebanese passports will be issued for one year only, for the child and his parent individually. (For more information, please refer to the section: issuing a child’s Lebanese passport.
ISSUING A NEW "LAISSEZ-PASSER" FOR A LEBANESE NEWBORN
In case of emergency, and if a Canadian passport could not be issued for a Lebanese newborn (because of time constraints), this Consulate General can issue a one trip "Laissez Passer" to Lebanon. The application form must be signed by both parents at the Consulate General. Notice that this special travel document will allow the newborn to go back to Lebanon only.
As a pre-requisite, the birth registration of the newborn has to be completed before at the Consulate General.

LOSS OF A LEBANESE PASSPORT
To formally report a lost or stolen Passport, the applicant must present:
- Proof of placing an advertisement in 2 different local newspapers for 3 consecutive
days
- Police report
- Proof of residence in Canada: Citizenship card, Immigration visa / permanent resident card, work or study permit
- Copy of the lost or stolen Passport
- New Lebanese I.D. or civil status act (Ikhraj Kayd) issued after 1993
- 3 recent pictures colored with white background

The Consulate General has to wait for an authorization from the Lebanese authorities before issuing a new Passport. Once the approval has been granted, the applicant can then apply for a New Lebanese Passport, as shown above.
PALESTINIAN TRAVEL DOCUMENT
ISSUING A NEW PALESTINIAN TRAVEL DOCUMENT
To issue a new Palestinian travel document, the applicant must come personally to the Consulate General with the following documents:
- 3 recent pictures colored with white background
- ID card for Palestinian Refugees
- Registration card - UNRWA
- Proof of residence in Canada: Citizenship card, Immigration visa / permanent resident card, work or study permit

NOTARIAL ACTS
POWER OF ATTORNEY
To confer a power of attorney to a person, the applicants must be personally present at the Consulate General with the following documents:
- Lebanese passport
- Lebanese I.D. card or civil status acts (Ikhraj Kayd)
- Proof of residence in Canada: Citizenship card, Immigration visa / permanent resident card, work or study permit.

It’s recommended to have all the information concerning the empowered person, subject of the power of attorney (Bank account number, Land’s identification, etc....)

LIFE CERTIFICATE
For a life certificate, applicants must come personally to the Consulate General with the following documents:

- Proof of residence in Canada: Citizenship card, Immigration visa / permanent resident card, work or study permit.

WILLS
To deposit or make a Will, Testators must come personally to the Consulate General along with two witnesses not related to them.
The Testator must be in full possession of his/her intellectual capacities and mental faculties, and in full control and awareness of his/her acts.
- The will can be a self-written text, signed and dated at the Consulate General, or
- The Testator can provide the text so that the Will can be typed at the Consulate General, or
- The Testator can provide the Will in a sealed envelop, and the Consulate General will authenticate and legalize the seal.
In all cases, a sealed copy of the Will is saved in the Register of Wills, at the Consulate General.
The required documents are :
- The Will itself (Self-hand-written, or sealed)
- Lebanese passports of the Testator and the witnesses
- Lebanese I.D. cards or civil status acts (Ikhraj Kayd) of the Testator and the witnesses
- Proof of residence in Canada: Citizenship card, Immigration visa / permanent resident card, work or study permit.

LEBANESE CITIZENSHIP FOR THE WIFE OF A LEBANESE CITIZEN
One year after the registration of a marriage between a non-Lebanese woman and a Lebanese man, upon the Lebanese concerned Authorities, the wife has the right to apply for the Lebanese citizenship, after the written consent of her husband. She will have to come personally to the Consulate General with the following documents:
- 2 recent pictures of the wife
- Marriage certificate (From Lebanon)
- Familial civil status acts (Ikhraj kayd Aakili)
- Written authorization of the spouse, allowing his wife to get the Lebanese Citizenship
- Valid passport of the wife, where the name of the husband is mentioned
- If the family name of the wife is, or sounds like, a Lebanese family name, without her being registered in the Lebanese official records, a declaration, written by the wife, has to be joined to the application, confirming that neither she, nor her father, possess the Lebanese citizenship, and that she would not apply for this citizenship in any other way.

MARRIAGE REGISTRATION
Required documents:

DIVORCE REGISTRATION
Required documents:
- Application Form
- Original marriage certificate, issued by the Register-Office
- Recent Lebanese I.D. or civil status act (Ikhraj kayd) for both spouses
- Familial civil status act (Ikhraj Kayd Aakily)
- Power of attorney to someone in Lebanon, with his/her address and phone number, empowering this person to give the divorce its executive form.
- Divorce judgment, and divorce certificate, legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa (125 Sussex Drive, Dept. Of Legalization, Tel : 1800-267-8376), and translated to Arabic by a sworn-in translator.
- Proof of residence in Canada: Citizenship card, Immigration visa / permanent resident card, work or study permit.

- The registration of the divorce is free of charge
- 15 $ to legalize the divorce’s judgment
- 15 $ to legalize the divorce’s attestation or certificate

MILITARY SERVICE : POSTPONEMENT OR FINAL EXEMPTION
Under the terms of law 665/2005, the obligatory military service in Lebanon was cancelled since February the 10th, 2007. Lebanese citizens living abroad do not need to start the process of postponement or final exemption of the military service.

- Certificate of Products analysis

- 4 / 1000 of the total amount of the invoice to a maximum fee of 1250 $.

TRANSPORTATION OF FURNITURE
If a Lebanese citizen wishes to return to Lebanon for good and wants to ship his furniture and personal belongings without paying the Lebanese Customs fees, he/she must come to the Consulate General with the following documents :
- Detailed list (furniture, belongings, ...) legalized by the Municipality or the City- Hall.
The list is valid for three moths only.
- Certificate of Residence issued by the City-Hall confirming the residence in Canada for more than three years.

TRANSPORTATION OF CARS
To ship a car to Lebanon, it has to be less than 8 years old. There is no exemption from Customs fees. For any additional information, please contact the Consulate General at :

TRANSPORTATION OF A DOMESTIC ANIMAL
To travel with a domestic animal, the applicant must present a certificate from the veterinary, confirming that all the vaccinations are up to date and that the animal is in good shape.
